A Bean of Dreams
“Ah Douglas firs Dian – Oh I mean Larah!”
"The conscious breeze is blowing through those trees look! It's incoherently harmonious!"
"The owls aren't what they seem."
On the Outside
= Personality =
- Sweet -
Sweet you say, why yes indeed. It is one of the first traits others pick up on Dale’s myriad of mannerisms, he rubs off as quiet, polite, and almost “soft” like that of feather down. He is not boisterous, loud, or overbearing; in fact he is even gentle in his movements, delicately picking up items with a feather’s light touch. Strangely this, of all his qualities, is the one that leaves a lasting impression.
However he’s not above using his sweet nature to sniggle the things he wants, learning from a young age his kind charm works wonders.
- Literate-
Dale holds a high capacity for the literate world, namely non-fiction books pertaining to his fascinations of dreams, symbols, and tree species. While on occasion he’ll dabble into his twin’s fiction series. Dreams are very much his world and he’ll always write them down in his dream journal for safe keeping, a highly secret and private book. Dale also has a deep adoration for symbols and importantly, the hidden meanings behind words. What does that quote really mean? He’ll sit some days and wonder of the paradoxes caused by certain phrases and oxymora. He is a stickler for finding hidden meanings behind just about anything, but partially his dreams and symbols. Naturally he holds a fondness for researching and archiving them once found.
- Creepy -
Dale can be downright creepy at times, a certain something one can’t quite put their finger on. Maybe it’s his quirk of using big words in sentences they don’t belong, thus making no sense. . . Yet strangely do? Or his use of Oxymora? Perhaps it’s the way he speaks about the “Conscious wind” he hears, whispering to him from the treetops?
More likely it’s his smile that gives others the heepy jeepys; a soft, very slow developing toothy grin that stays plastered on his face a second too long then is comfortable.
- Intuitive -
Dale is a sensitive soul, and even physically his senses are unconsciously in tune to the objects or creatures he touches, picking up the slightest of innate feelings. He’s learnt to “listen” to his inner self and his surroundings, namely the wind when it whistles through the trees and his feathers.
He is highly observant and intuitive to his environments; maybe it’s a dream thing of his? He can sometimes “predict” a motive; say a flick of the tail means Dad’s going to the fridge. He’ll then ask for food out of the blue before Dad has made nary a move. Unfortunately he does radiate a certain, “eerie” vibe when he randomly spurts out these request and words that make no sense what so ever.

- Leader -
Despite being known as a soft and dream orientated bean Dale has instinctive leadership skills deriving from a quiet confidence and even if he wants to or not is usually the one picked as the ring Leader. Even with his honeyed, sweet ways he has a sturdy core.
Due to what he appears on the outside some take him for a push over; that is until they discover, a deep rooted sureness that he knows no one has the power to belittle him, never bowing down to ingrates. Although he can become overly shy towards those he looks up to as idols, namely elder dragons and those who hold a lot of knowledge. He is a bean born to lead in any situation with a cool calm that defuses high tension situations.
- Attention Seeking -
Oh yeah, and he gets it too. While on occasion he doesn’t like being the involuntary leader he won’t mind a whole deal for it means ATTENTION! Yep he’s a stickler for attracting attention which he often gets by just being himself, this has been imprinted off his father Brennan who, like Dale, likes to bask in the delicious warm glow of appreciation and admiration. This can lead to him going overboard in his enthusiasm for meanings, as a result he’ll babble at a faster, intelligible pace.
If Dale is not the centre attention when he wishes, or is stuck in a childish rut of want he’ll stoop into a slump of utter boredom and won’t re-emerge for the rest of the day. He doesn’t care for his trees, or words, or symbols, or friends. He’s far too busy being bored. In this time he’ll become very expressive of his feelings, in a more grumpy, pushy way.
- Expressive -
A characteristic that gets him in trouble from time to time with his quirky captivations. But being as expressive as Dale is one reason why he actually makes a great leader. He’s exceptional at conveying his views and opinions, it doesn’t matter if they go against the vision of others because it’s /his/. He’ll often challenge the views of others and will always express his mind. . . In a tactful method.

= Quirks =
Dislikes having his feathers saturated unless he’s swimming, as such he avoids rainy days. To the contrary he adores them being touched. Hears whispering in the wind, or what he often calls "the conscious wind", he even has dreams about it. Thanks to confirmation from Khoshekh also believes trees speak. Has an affinity for reading glasses and likes the feel of them on his nose. No one knows why and when asks he simply states, “I’m a professional amateur.” Nibbles his elbow feathers when feeling stressed or out of place. Is liable to wrinkling his nose at artificial cherry scents and says in an expressive manner how disgusting they smell. = Voice Description and wording = Soft and steady, like that of a reader, he will often raise his voice to express issues he’s passionate about but for the majority he’s gentle. While he doesn’t mumble it might seem that way from his constant babble of words he’s picked up, and will use said words in sentences they don’t belong. Child Voice Claim: Henry Mills = Pouch Innards = In his pouch he usually keeps twigs, tree nuts and/or seeds -pine cones being a favorite, Velox's feathers, dream journal, and pencil. Along with what ever else he finds on his walks. = Fears (In depth) = The combination of Sunrises/sets and clouds, or what he refers to as the "Glow Clouds". Has a peculiar fear that it will always rain while he's waiting for buses. When Dale was young he was very fearful of the dark, and the monstrous creatures which live under his bed. |
= Hobbies/Interests =
Tree spotting: Like bird spotting but with trees. Dale is utterly fascinated by these organisms and will write down what species of tree he’s seen, how old he thinks it might be, and then any little annotations about what the tree means in his mind. He’ll then gather a piece of its bark to add to his collection. He even pulls around a “pet” log to keep nature close, or in his quirky way, to harvest a second opinion. Tracking: More of a spontaneous happening than an actual hobby or interest- Since Dale has excellent observation skills he’s unwittingly become a decent tracker. He’ll use his talent to follow animal trails and deftly discover hard-to-find fruit bearing trees. Cherry Pie: How can cherry pie be a hobby you ask? Quiet simple really, Dale makes it his business to taste test each and every cherry pie that enters his vicinity, this can cause him to become quite the rascally pest. But hay, he adores the delicious flavours of cherry and pastry, cut him some slack. Oxymoron/ Paradox phrases: “Phff, no, it’s not a fancy name for moron”. ~ Dale Oxymora are figures of speech which are self-contradictory, such as ‘wicked kindness’ or ‘accidently on purpose’, Dale absolutely loves them and the riddle-some defiance they pose to a sentence, he likes to sit and theorize about how they could work in a real life scenarios and what they could actually mean, it’s all about the meanings remember. He also has a fondness for paradox phrases, such as, ‘how do we know what we don’t know.’ Dreams: Dale is so fascinated by dreams and what they mean it’s insane, and not many people appreciate him prying into their unconscious world. But that doesn’t hinder him in the slightest, he often surrounds himself with dream related books, including his very precious dream journal; a book where he keeps all his dreams, it’s more private to him than a diary. When writing in his dream journal he likes to use one of velox’s feathers as a quill. Although sometimes in his haste he’ll write it down in pencil first to later go over it with ink. Symbols: In relation to his dreams and Oxymora Dale likes to find and record various symbols, these symbols can be anything from simple alphabetical letters to fantasy emblems created from imagination. As with everything in his life he’ll like to assign or unearth a meaning to his symbols. |

= Family Relationships =
Husband (Mate) Khoshekh: Always referred to as Khoshekh, never Khosh or Kho, always and forever Khoshekh. How do I begin to string words together to explain this collaboration of weird? To outsiders this friendship seems pretty ordinary, two young beans spending copious amounts of time in each other’s company. Catch a bit of their conversation and you’ll think otherwise, start one with them and you’ll find yourself caught between two freakish grins that leave a crawly sensation up your spine. While Larah is Dale’s closest companion, Khosh is his best friend and he’s free to talk about what he hears in the wind, of the mundane ethereal, or the energy flow under all of nature. Khosh has an understanding unlike anything Dale has ever seen and he nurtures that. He also understands his friend’s physical condition and protects him from others, even if it costs him his insane sanity by black lodge. Daughter Peanut: WIP Son Sir Clawtoe: WIP Father Brennan (Dad): Brennan is Dale’s go to man for anything concerning games, Velox might be the athletic one but Brennan has a certain appeal to him which allures Dale. Maybe it’s his go-getter, treat everything as a game attitude? He’s often sneaking up on his Dad and ruffling up his hair, the cheeky pest knows his father's obsessive need for good appearances. Out of all his family members Dale likes to observe his Dad the most, perhaps this is how he picked up on his own impulsive, attention seeking behaviours? Sometimes he will sit beside him and sweetly dish out compliments in an attempt to sooth his father’s nervous worry about his looks, or to just let him know he’s not alone in the wide world, after all he doesn’t like to be alone ether. Father Velox (Da): No offence to Brennan but Dale does share a closer bond with Velox due his acceptance of odd quirks and reading habits (not to mention their similar appearances). Dale feels like he must protect his Da from the people in the world, which is itself a paradox action. His Da might not speak up when a particularly hateful bean opens their trap but Dale certainly will, expressing both their opinions when his father wont. No crumby cretin will invade their time with vulgarity. He will sometimes sense his Da’s awkward behaviour around him and withheld physical action, but Dale doesn’t care and is more happy snuggling up with him reading a good book over playing. Nor did this used to stop Dale from hitching a ride on Velox’s head or wrestling with his feathery tail. At least those parts were manageable for his kid-self. Twin Brother Cassius: Two peas in a pod, these two are often seen snuggling together reading books, while Dale doesn’t share the same character obsession as his twin he certainly loves to theorize and “ship” them, the more meaningful the better. He doesn’t mind that his twin is quiet, for he is to, and is happy just to sit in his company. In social situations Dale takes the scene and tries to save his brother from as many awkward moments as possible, he’s intuitive enough to know when his twin is feeling embarrassed, and vice versa his Twin covers up for Dale’s odd mumblings and words. The only time these two ever have friction is when Dale falls into his slumps (or any time he doesn’t get his own way), he will ignore his twin, no matter how hard he tries to make him feel better. In Dale’s words they’re, ‘differently same.’ Friend Jayleo: Jayleo is Dale's constant source of fresh new words, phrases and above all else, symbols. There is never a dull moment when Jayleo is concerned, she always seems to have something new up her sleeve for Dale to lavish over. He often records her findings in a book for later research. Sometimes he used to try and sneak into her pouch for adventures, but never to any avail; the dangerous wild is no place for young beans, although he got his little thrills when Jay took him out on milder expeditions. They both share a love of nature which Dale adores, from Jay he's learned the ancient art of bonsai and now likes to speculate which varieties of trees can be miniaturized. Friend Strider: When Dale spends time with Strider it's pretty much in the company of Jayleo, who seems to never leave the dark beans side during her spare days and takes Dale along with. When he does manage to get Strider all to himself it's usually by a freakish chance of events; at least when he was younger for Strider had no time to entertain a beanlett. Their relationship is. . . strange at best, Dale is in love with the gadgets littering Strider's unit and likes to ask as many questions as he can concern the meaning behind each one, Stri in turn answers, however it's Dale's adoration of the dark beans eyes which set's a rocky path. As often as he can he'll steal his shades and fawn over the pale eyes. He reckons the conscious wind would like to see them too for the shades disconnect Strider from the world. This trick never gets old no matter how many years pass. Closest Friend Larah: "Yeah! We'll be sure to seriously screw up whoever did this to you too. we're way smart with this sort of thing. Like some kinda wild freelance detectives." she braaaaaagged with a slick confidence. Larah and Dale are monsters in crime; there is nothing these two won’t do together. After his family Larah is the only bean Dale will try and over please with his sweet ways, which has given birth to his “pet” log, it’s not just keeping trees close to him but his best friend as well – besides the Log always has things to whisper. He adores her with all his heart and will enthral her with his dreams, she’s the only one she trusts with his more uncanny ones. He even lets her leaf through his dream journal! Both are Twin Peak descendants and live in a world of their own making, Dale has received the nickname of Cooper and through Larah’s eyes hopes he can live up to the namesake. |
